Hearing Brake Noise?
BRAKES
Your brakes are probably the most vital piece of equipment on your vehicle after the engine itself. Never neglect squeaking brakes thinking the sound is only caused by brake dust, as it could be an indication that it's time for them to be replaced. There is no set guideline for brake pad replacement. Each driver has their own style of driving that will dictate the wear rate, and even within that unique range, wear rates can vary if your driving patterns change. Be aware of any changes in brake performance and bring your vehicle in for immediate care.
Other short term maintenance includes tire rotations and pressure checks, topping up engine fluids, replacing wiper blades, and testing your battery for charge strength. Headlights, taillights, and turn signal bulbs can fail over time, so regularly checking and replacing these will keep you driving safely.
Battery Trouble?
Your vehicle's battery provides energy to start the engine, plus it supplies power to accessories when the engine is not running. The cold of winter and the heat of summer can affect your auto battery. See us for your vehicle's battery needs.
Service Your Chevy the Right Way at Abernethy Chevrolet Buick GMC

SERVICE
At Abernethy Chevrolet Buick GMC, we offer GM service for all of your maintenance needs. The use of GMÂ parts ensures that any repairs, upgrades, or services we provide will carry the same level of quality that your vehicle had as it rolled off of Chevrolet's production line. Parts manufactured by a third party have no guarantee of using high-quality alloys or utilizing designs that are made specifically for your Chevrolet engine. They typically have a shorter lifespan than Chevrolet manufactured parts and often do not fit as well in your engine as parts designed specifically for it. Always choose an CDJR repair shop for the best quality when servicing your Chevy.
SHORT TERM MAINTENANCE
When it comes to preventive maintenance for your engine, the little details count. In order for it to perform correctly, your engine requires a source of clean lubrication. One of the best investments you can make into your engine's longevity is regular oil changes with the correct weight of oil. Over time, dust from the atmosphere and microscopic metal burrs that slough off the engine's moving parts and embed themselves in the oil creates a dirty, abrasive sludge that can actually harm the precision parts in your engine. Keep your engine young with regular oil changes, and you'll also get excellent performance as a short term effect.
Your technician will also replace the oil filter at the time of your oil change, but there are other filters in your engine that should not be overlooked. Your engine air, cabin, and fuel filters also perform vital duties in keeping their respective areas free of debris, so have them changed regularly according to manufacturer guidelines.
LONG TERM MAINTENANCE
ÂLong term maintenance is far easier to predict and plan. For example, your timing and serpentine belts will need replacement every 50,000 miles or so. This is a fairly common milestone, as it's also around this time that you'll want an inspection of your shocks and struts, a replacement of fluids in your brake, transmission, and transfer case systems, and a check of your spark plugs. If your Chevy is a four-wheel drive, it may have several differentials that will need a fluid replacement to keep them properly lubricated.
Your coolant exchange system keeps your engine temperature in check, but over time, it can build up contaminants. Cleaning it thoroughly and replacing the fluid will have it operating at peak performance for tens of thousands of miles. Similarly, your fuel injection system can become clogged with gunk even when using the best grade of gasoline, so having it regularly cleaned every 60,000 miles or so will deliver top performance.
SEASONAL MAINTENANCE
The seasonal maintenance required for your Chevrolet will really depend on your climate and the kinds of demands you make on it. If you're expecting to drive through heavy snow or mud, you'll want to change your summer tires for something with an aggressive tread and specially formulated rubber for the winter and spring months. It's also a good idea to check your wiper blades for cracks and splits in the rubber before going into seasons that will require frequent use. Top up your coolant or antifreeze along with windshield wiper fluid, so you don't find your engine overheating or have a dirty windshield with no way to clean it quickly.
